Reader,
You're the real deal, right?
Like a true expert.
Someone who gets killer results for your peeps.
You're out here building your brand, posting on social, doing the MOST to grow your audience with the right leads.
But you feel stretched thin and need to be more strategic.
Well, that's exactly what we are talking about today - how to generate leads in a time- and cost-effective way.
This newsletter will be a little different - it's less teaching the HOW and more rating the WHAT.
You'll see what I mean in a minute.
Let's go!!!
First up...
The goal is that at some point in your business, you are doing all the things.
Like seriously, when you get to $5-6M in your business... all. the. things.
However, that obviously requires a team and funds, so you will likely just keep building over the years.
How this list is going to work....
All lead generation strategies CAN work.
And, there is more than what I can fit in one newsletter.
However, I wanted to cover the most common ones, so that if you invest time and money in these, you can actually get results.
But, if your best friend's cousin's sister is doing something AMAZING... and you want to try it... you're a grown up. Do what you want. I am going to share my honest opinions after helping to build an 8-figure company from our founder's personal brand, and running an agency that has worked with some of the biggest names in the online space. Take it for what it's worth.
Tier 1 Strategies
Organic Social Media
-
Facebook
- Facebook is a GREAT place if your target market is over the age of 35.
- The best places to actually generate leads are your personal profile and groups.
- This can go faster than some other platforms if you learn to engage in other people's groups in a helpful and effective way.
- Posting on a business page is PAINFULLY slow, and will go almost nowhere unless you already have 10s of thousands of followers already.
- This is a simple platform to learn, and you don't need to be a video genius to do well here.
- Your greatest growth will come from posting multiple times per day, connecting with new people in DM's daily, engaging in groups consistently, and leveraging stories.
- If you want to kick growth into gear, use reels consistently as well.
- The quickest path to generating actual leads is going to be to start your own niche Facebook group where there is a lot of conversation going on with the community members.
-
LinkedIn
- This is ideal if you are B2B or work with corporate clients.
- This is also ideal if writing is your strength, although they have recently been prioritizing video.
- LinkedIn is definitely something you have to work consistently to see growth.
- The magic in lead gen is going to come from your willingness to do outbound engagement.
- Most people are cold-messaging on LinkedIn, so if you can really build an audience and start inbound conversations, you will stand out.
- The cool thing about LinkedIn is you can search specifically for your ideal people and connect/follow them so they see you and start to engage with you.
- LinkedIn isn't quick, but it can be direct.
- You will have to spend a few months building a presence to be considered legit, before you actually start to see any real results with your lead gen.
- Your quickest path to leads - getting people on your list with a great opt-in!
-
Instagram
- Instagram is actually a great lead gen platform but it's HARD to grow on.
- This is ideal for people with visual services (photography, fitness) or a demographic between 25-40 years old.
- You have to master content creation to do well if you are starting here today (carousels and video)
- To generate leads you need first to build your following then focus on stories.
- The feed is great for generating leads by growing your email list.
- Stories are great for booking calls or making low-ticket purchases.
- Using automations is a great way to get launch/masterclass sign-ups.
- Welcome messages on IG work amazingly well for lead gen, but you do need new people following to be able to send welcome messages .
- You also need to have incredible patience and commitment to this platform due to the frequent changes in the algorithm.
- This is a VERY slow platform for most, unless you are really good at creating content in the style Instagram prefers (master of hooks, great on authentic video, understand attention, good at carousel type graphics. It's a GREAT place for making sales, but it takes a lot of effort.
These three are where MOST people can start. We don't use TikTok and haven't developed a comprehensive strategy around X, so I don't feel qualified to offer thoughts on those platforms. I will say X is all about YOUR interaction with other accounts on the platform for growth, and the best focus for lead gen is largely going to be list building. TikTok can get you viral growth, similar to IG, but lead gen is a bit harder because the only real way to get people to take action is through the link in your profile. DMs aren't as big of a deal there, and you can't use ManyChat on the platform.
Our Miracle Hour process is the most direct way to generate leads consistently from organic social media. You can learn it inside our Virtual Business School Membership ($59/month NO contract).
Ads
-
List building ads
- 10/10, I highly recommend using Meta for list building as EARLY as possible. You can spend $1000 a month on this and it will be SO worth it if you have a solid email strategy.
- The cost on these are usually pretty low ($3-$10) depending on audience.
- They work amazingly well for almost any business!
- You will definitely attract people who aren't ideal, and just have to be okay with that. If 20-30% are qualified, the volume is usually SO worth it. You are going to have to be okay with having people on your list who aren't 100% perfect fit clients.
- You do need SOLID messaging to be able to attract the right people, and you DO want to make sure your email strategy is on point, but this is a definite must for us!
-
Workshop/masterclass/launch ads
- Again, 10/10 recommend. This is the FASTEST way to build an audience for your low-ticket offers, and your ecosystem for your high-ticket offers.
- These leads will cost more (a live training is always more expensive of a CPL than a free opt-in).
- The intent of these leads is a bit higher than just a lead from list building, but you DO need a dialed-in conversion event and follow-up strategy. Without that, you are just stacking leads and won't see any conversions.
- Again, there will be people who are not qualified. You can't obsess over that, although you do want to see about 25-30% be your perfect fit person, and 20-25% be probable fit people.
- You can't be obsessed with direct attribution. Ad leads typically require a few exposures to your offers to convert. Just because they don't convert in this masterclass doesn't mean they aren't ideal; it may just mean they need more time.
- This is probably your FASTEST path to a sale with lead gen, outside of warm leads alread in your audience.
-
Funnels/direct to call or purchase ads
- I don't hate these, but they aren't as easy as the gurus make them sound.
- Your offer has to be KILLER.
- You have to be okay with LOSING money on the front end to acquire the first purchase so you can get the lifetime value that comes from that client.
- These leads are significantly more expensive, and you need a substantial amount of money to test them (minimum $ 5,000, ideally $10,000) and optimize the funnel over time.
- They CAN work as part of a larger brand strategy, but you have to be obsessive over the numbers. You can make sales but still be losing money. This is definitely for someone more experienced with running ads and who truly understands how to build a dialed-in ecosystem.
- This will take several months to test; there is no magic funnel that starts printing money overnight.
-
Google Ads
- These are HIGH INTENT because they are search-based.
- Google ads are more expensive than other ads, but are ideal for local businesses or niche businesses that people are searching for.
- Google Ads are definitely evolving with AI, but they remain a valuable tool for businesses.
- Typically, these ads aren't great for list building, but are suitable for direct-to-call booking, free trials, or getting someone into your local establishment.
- You need to work with someone who understands this platform, as it is pretty different from Meta ads.
-
YouTube Ads
- We don't have much experience with these, although we will be adding them into our strategy next year.
- They are most closely related to Google Ads, but they aren't search-based. These are the ads you see on YouTube videos.
- You need to really understand how to get attention and make an offer quickly with these (you have about 5 seconds) before someone hits skip.
- This is definitely something you have to build and tweak and iterate, but they are highly effective once you do.
- These will take much longer to produce than Meta ads, but your percentage of qualified leads will be much higher.
Email Marketing
-
Lead gen from email
- This should be a MAJOR source of sales or sales conversations.
- Once someone is on your email list, they are yours to lose; they've already raised their hand, saying they are interested in what you are offering in some small way.
- You've already invested time and money in these leads, so you want to ensure you are presenting strategic offers to them.
- Your email list should fill your launches/masterclasses/workshops.
- You should also be able to make direct sales from your email list and get calls booked for your high-ticket offers.
- EVERYONE should be building and leveraging their email list. This is a 10/10 for me, and I can't think of ANY exceptions!
Tier 2 Strategies
YouTube
Okay, I am going to hit these fast, because this is the longest email of all time...
Pros: search-based = high intent. Video builds trust. Long-term brand building. If you can retain a viewer, this is IDEAL for list building or low-ticket offers. With the right strategy, you can definitely generate calls for your high-ticket as well. YouTube continues to grow in terms of its viewership, and more and more people are now consuming podcasts HERE than on audio feeds.
Cons: You have to know what you are doing. We have not done this well over the years and are going to work with a specialized agency to revamp our strategy in Q4 completely. This is NOT cheap, and takes a lot of time to record the content. However, this is a GREAT long-term play and list builder.
If you have the capacity, I DO recommend, but this isn't a fast or cheap lead gen strategy.
Podcasting
Pros: you are literally in someone's ear in a long-form capacity, which means MASSIVE trust can be built. This is binge-worthy content, so when someone finds you, they can dive into your content and binge on it. This is a great list builder that can also be used to pre-sell your offers before a launch, when done well. You don't have to master all the video stuff, and can LITERALLY record in your car.
Cons: Audio platform growth has stagnated in recent years, as most major shows are now utilizing video formats for their podcasts. Podcast platforms don't have excellent searchability, and you can't really grow an audio podcast like you used to be able to (through social media, email, and podcast guesting). Audio listening is a passive activity (people do it while doing something else), which is great for being in their ear, but makes lead generation harder. Since someone would have to stop and search for your link, it adds an extra layer of friction.
Kelly's podcast has been HIGHLY effective in our sales process, but it's a longer play. People will listen to 100 episodes, then convert into a high-ticket program. We can't track the individuals responsible for that, so following up is challenging. This is a great long-term play for lead gen, but you do have to really grow your show. It's also a great brand and trust builder, but if you need leads fast, this is NOT it.
Okay, I had like 6 other things here, but this email is obnoxiously long, so maybe I will do a part two bonus newsletter this week!
In the meantime, I put together a little SECRET audio feed for you!
It's got our trainings on how to 10x your sales by the end of the year, along with my sessions on audience monetization and audience growth.
You can listen this weekend while you are at the gym, out walking, or doing things around the house! Here's the link to check out the episodes!
You will have to sign up via email (it's free) then go check your email for the podcast app you prefer most! All episodes will be in the app already, and we will add in more as we do them live!
