Reader, Last week, we talked about informational (How-To) content... This week, we are talking inspirational content, or what we call HOPE content. And this kind of content strategy is EVERYWHERE. “Inspirational content is what builds connection.” And yes. Emotion matters. People do buy based on emotion and back it up with logic. That's true. But emotion ALONE isn't enough. They need BELIEF. Emotion triggers belief, but if all you are is inspirational in today's market, you will have a huge following of people who LOVE you, but not people who BUY from you. Inspiration alone does not create sales. It creates engagement. And those are not the same thing. Today, we are talking about HOW to use HOPE content in a way that doesn't just collect followers, but that leads to sales! Let's DO THIS! Hope Content that is INCOMPLETE in today's market... You've seen these EVERYWHERE... "For every door that closed on me, I'm coming back to buy the building" "Success doesn't come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently." "If you really want to do something, you'll find a way; if you don't, you'll find an excuse." They are plastered on B-roll, photos, carousels... They are liked and shared and reposted. But, they are quickly forgotten. In fact, you've probably seen quotes like this and could not POSSIBLY... if your life depended on it... remember who you saw it from. The truth, this is incredible for getting people to engage... which IS part of an overall strategy... But it's not meaningful in the buying process. What's Better in today's market? Well, I am so glad you asked... Hope is still incredibly important. But instead of a quick dopamine hit, we want to use our hope marketing to help people overcome their own internal doubts. So, instead of basic quotes that are cute but fluff what you want to do is:
Example in the wild... It was in the cafeteria at school. I walked up to the lunch lady with a sealed envelope. No money inside, like always. I was on the free lunch line. She knew that. She never opened my envelope in front of anyone. Except that day. There was a new lunch lady. And she didn’t know. I don’t remember everything that happened next. I just remember the shock. The humiliation. And the decision. Before I had language for it. I decided I would never feel that powerless again. From the moment I was old enough to work, I didn’t. I babysat, walked dogs, worked at the pool. I had three jobs at a time. I went to a local university so I could graduate with the least amount of debt possible. I cheered for the NFL. I was a cocktail waitress. And I learned something early: If you know how to sell, you can turn almost any no into a yes. That belief carried me through college. I worked for a Fortune 500 company. Promoted seven times in eight years, ran 17 locations, managed teams of over 100, and broke every sales and growth record the company had seen. I became the youngest female Senior Vice President in company history. Eventually, I started my own coaching and consulting company. I grew it to 7 figures BEFORE I ever left corporate. People ask what my superpower is. It was never talent. Or luck. It's discipline. The willingness to show up when it was hard. When I didn’t feel like it. When no one was watching. But here’s what changed everything. I didn’t transform my life by doing everything. I transformed it by doing the right things, consistently over time. One focused hour a day. Example in the wild... Every biz owner I know who has a larger company is struggling with employee issues. Honestly, the workforce HAS changed. You aren't crazy. And yes, all the things about culture still apply... And yes, there are things that will always be on you as a leader... But sometimes, it's not you. People who used to perform aren't anymore. People who used to be team players start spiraling. People who used to operate with integrity stop doing that. Here's how to not lose your mind in the process... 1-For every BAD employee situation, you likely have a few good ones. Remind yourself of THOSE! Sometimes we can get all catastrophic with our thinking, when the truth is, it's not MOST people. -Don't let other people's incompetence or lack of capacity force you into playing small. Just because they can't doesn't mean it can't be done, they may just not be the right person for the job. 3-Let go of the past "failures". It is SO hard to not let the past decisions make you a little gunshy. I have been there a million times. There are still great people out there, don't let the ones who weren't keep you from finding them. 4-Stop trying to understand. This is probably my fatal flaw. I am constantly trying to make sense of things that sometimes don't make sense. Like I always want to know why someone would do the things they do... act out of character... think certain things are okay. Sometimes it's obvious. Most of the time, you can't make sense of it, so ya' just gotta' let things go. 5-Pray. Pray before hiring, during training, when you aren't sure how to lead well, when things feel wonky. Ask God for wisdom to know when to cut someone and when they just need a little grace. Ask him to make red flags obvious. Ask him to help you to discern in all the areas of leadership. People are always out here people-ing. The right ones make EVERYTHING so much easier and a whole lot more fun. The wrong ones (even when they are wonderful people), can turn the ship in the wrong direction and do massive damage just a tiny degree at a time. That's why most people aren't leading. It's hard. You can still position yourself as a thought leader. You don't have to be spammy. You don't have to be a bro-marketer, pushing non-stop. But you do need to understand how to turn the three levels of content (How-to, Hope, and Conviction into demand-creating machines that make people TRUST that you are the ANSWER to their problems. Not just like and trust you... that's baseline... They have to believe that you are the MISSING link to solving their problem... That if they just had your service, product, or offer in their corner, they wouldn't have this problem anymore. That requires a different strategy. It requires understanding certain triggers and knowing how to use them ETHICALLY (not manipulatively). When you have that understanding, your posts become inbound lead generators. Your DMs get responses. Your emails convert people into buyers. No arm-twisting required.
